about
A memory of our last day trip with my mother, before her final illness. We had a wonderful sun-kissed day in Castlerock, and Bishop's Gate had always been one of her favourite places in the world. I love Neil and Maebh's playing on this...
lyrics
Wheelchair, 2014
I remember the wheelchair weight of my mother,
as I pushed her up the hill at Bishop's Gate.
It was our last big day out together,
before the shadows closed over, and it got too late.
She'd always loved the lake and gardens -
we'd been coming here since I was just a child.
The ocean and the temple and the railway,
the collision of the tamed and the wild.
When the sun lights up the leaves,
those stained glass colours feel like hope.
And as we headed back to the car,
I held back hard against the downward slope.
The downward slope.
